1. What this warranty covers
Sumar International, Inc., trading as uBRITE Lighting, warrants that uBRITE-branded lamps and luminaires supplied by us or by an authorised reseller will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for the applicable warranty term.
| Product | Registered within 90 days | Not registered |
|---|---|---|
| A19 lamps | 5 years | 1 year |
| Candle and filament lamps | 5 years | 1 year |
| GU10 spots | 5 years | 1 year |
| Retrofit downlights | 5 years | 1 year |
| Night lights | 5 years | 1 year |
| Upgrade kits | 5 years on every lamp | 1 year |
| Commercial luminaires | As stated in the project specification, typically 5–7 years | — |
The term runs from the date of purchase shown on your registration or proof of purchase, not from the date of installation or registration.
A defect includes premature failure to light, failure of the driver electronics, and light output falling below 70% of the rated initial lumens (the L70 point) before the rated hours have elapsed under normal use.
2. Registration
Registration is what extends cover from one year to five. It must be completed within 90 days of purchase through the warranty registration form.
You will need the serial number laser-etched around the lamp base in the format UB-1234-5678 (on kits, printed on the carton end flap), the product SKU, the purchase date and the retailer.
We email a registration reference, which is the only thing a future claim needs. We hold the registration for the full term plus 24 months. You do not need to keep a receipt once registration is confirmed.
For bulk and trade registrations, send the batch and serial ranges with the purchase order number and we will register the consignment in one operation.
3. What we will do
If a lamp fails within its term and the claim is accepted, we will at our option:
- replace the lamp with the same product, free of charge including shipping; or
- substitute an equivalent or better current product where the original has been discontinued; or
- refund the purchase price where neither is practical.
There is no pro-rata deduction for time in service. A lamp that fails in year four is replaced in full, not at 20% of value.
A replacement carries the remainder of the original warranty term, or 90 days from dispatch, whichever is longer. It does not restart the five years.
Replacements are dispatched within two working days of the claim being accepted. We do not require the failed lamp back first; a prepaid recycling mailer is included so it can be disposed of properly.
4. What is not covered
This warranty does not cover:
- Normal depreciation. Gradual light loss that remains above the L70 threshold is expected behaviour, not a defect.
- Use outside published ratings. Most commonly, a lamp not rated for enclosed fixtures installed in one; also operation outside the stated ambient temperature range, or in a base-up orientation where the product specifies base-down.
- Incompatible control gear. Damage caused by a dimmer, timer, sensor or transformer not on the published compatibility list for that lamp.
- Supply faults. Damage from voltage outside the stated tolerance, surges, lightning, or an incorrectly wired or unearthed installation.
- Physical damage. Impact, crushing, over-tightening, water ingress in a product not rated for it, or damage in transit not reported within 5 working days.
- Modification. Any lamp opened, repaired or altered, or with its serial number removed or defaced.
- Cosmetic matters. Minor colour variation within the product’s stated SDCM binning tolerance, and marks that do not affect function.
- Consequential costs. Labour to access or replace a lamp, scaffolding or lift hire, business interruption, or spoiled goods — except where a commercial agreement expressly includes a labour allowance.
- Products not bought from an authorised source. Counterfeit and grey-market goods carry no warranty; contact us if you are unsure whether a seller is authorised.
- Force majeure. Fire, flood, earthquake, war and similar events.
5. How to make a claim
- Check the obvious first. Try the lamp in a different, non-dimmed fitting. If several lamps on one circuit have failed, the circuit or dimmer is the more likely cause and we will help you diagnose it either way.
- Gather the details. Registration reference (or proof of purchase if unregistered), serial number, how long the lamp was in service, where it was installed, whether the circuit is dimmed and with what.
- Submit the claim through the contact form choosing “Warranty or returns”, or by email.
- We respond within one working day with an accept, a decline with reasons, or a question. Where we need the lamp for analysis we send a prepaid label.
- Replacement ships within two working days of acceptance.
Patterns matter more than individual lamps
One early failure is bad luck and we will simply replace it. Three failures in the same fitting points at the fitting; three across one circuit points at the dimmer or the supply. We ask these questions because replacing lamps into an unresolved fault wastes your time as well as ours.
6. Commercial and project terms
For specified commercial projects the warranty may be varied by the project documentation, which takes precedence over this page where the two differ. Typical variations:
- Extended terms of 5 to 7 years on luminaires, subject to the operating conditions stated in the specification.
- Labour allowances where agreed, covering the cost of access and replacement up to a stated amount per luminaire.
- Batch replacement commitments where failures exceed an agreed threshold within a period, which usually indicates a batch issue rather than individual defects.
- Colour consistency undertakings to a stated SDCM step, so replacements match the installed run.
- Spares holding, where we hold a matched-batch quantity against future failures.
Commercial warranties are conditional on installation by a competent person to applicable codes, on operation within the design parameters, and on reasonable maintenance including keeping heat sinks clear.
7. Transferability
The warranty attaches to the product, not to the purchaser, and transfers automatically with the property or the goods for the remainder of the term. A new homeowner or building owner may claim on a registration made by a previous owner, on proof that the lamps are the registered ones.
To update the contact details on a registration, email us with the reference and the new details.
8. Your statutory rights
This is a limited warranty given voluntarily by us. It is in addition to, and does not limit, the rights you have by law.
In particular, nothing here affects your rights under the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act or applicable state consumer protection statutes. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so those limitations may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
If you are a consumer outside the United States, the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence continues to apply and prevails over any inconsistent term on this page.
9. If we disagree
If we decline a claim we will say why, in writing, with reference to the specific exclusion relied on. If you disagree:
- Ask for a review. A second assessor who was not involved in the original decision will look at it, and we will respond within 10 working days.
- Independent testing. Where the dispute turns on whether a lamp is defective, either party may ask for testing by an accredited independent laboratory. The party whose position is not upheld bears the cost.
- Escalation. Failing resolution, the dispute process in section 12 of the Terms of Service applies — direct discussion, then mediation, then the courts.
We would rather replace a marginal lamp than argue about it. In practice the great majority of claims are accepted on the day they arrive.
